MucorGenius a multiplex real-time PCR assay for the detection of the clinical most prevalent Mucorales species

MucorGenius is a multiplex real-time PCR assay developed by PathoNostics which detects the clinical most prevalent Mucorales species responsible for mucormycosis. The most prevalent etiological agents of mucormycosis closely associated with disease in humans are Rhizopus spp., Mucor spp., Rhizomucor spp., Lichtheimia spp. and Cunninghamella. spp.

Mucormycosis is a rare invasive fungal infection with exceedingly high mortality and few therapeutic options. MucorGenius enables direct detection of Mucorales species in respiratory tract samples and biopsy samples within 3,5 hours allowing for timely, targeted treatment resulting in improved clinical outcome in these infected patients.

The MucorGenius multiplex PCR kit is suitable for real-time PCR instruments and has been verified on the LightCycler 480 II (Roche) and the Rotor-Gene Q (Qiagen).
